OUR STORY

How we began.

We started out as a few mums with autistic children, who wanted a safe space to take our children; a place for them to play, make friends and be themselves all while not having to worry about their disability or being different.

Realising there was nothing like this in Cookstown and surrounding area for primary aged children, we knew this was a much-needed resource. After sharing our ideas with other parents and educational professionals – our community began to grow, and AUsome kids began! We officially started in February 2020, but little did we know our plans would-be put-on hold! Covid-19 emerged as a worldwide pandemic - it postponed our plans, but we eventually opened our doors in July 2020. Numbers were restricted and safety was a priority, but we made the most of it and created an AUSOME community.

What AUsome Kids offers:

  • A space for your child age 4-11 to socialise along with others in a safe environment

  • A sensory room designed with autism and sensory processing disorder in mind (approved by the education authority and supplied by Learning Space, Belfast)

  • A space where parents can connect, help and support each other.

  • Volunteers who facilitate activities for children and parents, including arts/craft/music/sensory

  • Coffee mornings for parents

  • Adult classes for fun and relaxation

  • Training venue for parents & professionals
